Apophyllite Crystal Cluster | 7×5×4 cm | 120g

This particular Apophyllite specimen is a cluster of pale colorless to translucent crystals showing a bright vitreous luster and closely intergrown crystal growth. Apophyllite commonly develops in open cavities within basaltic volcanic rocks, where mineral-rich fluids allow crystals to form in successive stages. Indian Apophyllite is especially well known from the Deccan Traps of Maharashtra, where it occurs in cavity pockets together with zeolite-group minerals. The crystals commonly develop as prismatic forms with sharply defined terminations or as compact intergrown clusters, producing the layered three-dimensional arrangement seen here. Natural variations in transparency, crystal size, inclusions, contacts and surface texture are part of its formation.
